Salem's programming is diverse, designed to meet the needs of a diverse congregation. Mission opportunities, fellowship, small groups, Bible study and recreation provide a holistic approach to growing in Christ.

Fellowship opportunities

Blithe Spirits
A lively group of folks who meet once a month on the first Wednesday for fellowship and fun. Call the church office and someone will call and remind you of the next meeting.

Youth Fellowship--not meeting over the summer.
Sunday nights @ 7 p.m. Come, join the fun, do neat things, meet new friends.

Christians for Fun
Includes co-ed softball, men's basketball, and Ironbird games...

Worship Related Opportunities

Chancel Choir
Have you ever sat back in a worship service, listened to our great choir, and thought, “I would love to be up there adding my voice to theirs”? Well, why not join this group of people who love to sing and praise the Lord? Work with our talented music director, Jim Graham, and discover a new talent. Jim says everybody can sing. Practice Thursday 7:30-9 p.m. Then Sunday mornings at 10:15 for a quick refresh.

Handbell Choir
Practice 9:30 Sundays. What a wonderful way to ring praises to God. No experience necessary. It's very easy to learn and a great way to meet people. Call Karen Fisher if you have any questions.

Praise Band
This is for you if you play an instrument or sing. Come, find out on Thursdays @ 6:00 P.M. Contact person is Krista Ports.

Puppets
Are you a ham at heart? Then you will want to be a part of our "No Strings Attached" puppet ministry. For 5th graders and older. Practice is usually on Saturday mornings. Come and claim your character.

Liturgical Dance
Come, join our liturgical dance team "Beautiful Feet." It's another wonderful way to praise God. Come and learn a dance to share in worship. A prayerful and worshipful experience even to practice. Practice is usually on Mondays.

Men's Chorus
meets the first and third Thursdays at 6:30 PM.  Jody Ports is the Contact person.

Liturgists
Would you be willing to read the Scripture on Sunday mornings and/or assist with communion?

Study opportunities

Sunday School for all ages---Sunday School at Salem runs concurrent with the school year, beginning in September and ending in early June (when we go to the Summer schedule). There is a place for everyone, birth to 101. We have a nursery which is equipped with cribs and lots of toys. We have regular Sunday School classes for pre-school through Adult. Sunday School for the children (pre-school through grade 5) enjoys a bi-weekly music ministry as well. The older classes incorporate a drama ministry into learning. At Salem, we provide team-teachers for each class, providing more support and guidance for new teachers. Sunday School begins at 9:30 and is over at 10:30. Come and join us for an uplifting hour of personal growth and fun.

Adult Sunday School--
Come, join us Sept. 7th at 9:30 in the parlor for great fellowship and study. Breakfast food and coffee are provided each week too. Each week stands alone and reading ahead for the following Sunday is optional. Come and join us.

Common Grounds---provides a place to land for adults. It meets@ 9:30 A.M. every Sunday beginning Sept. 7th in the Fellowship Hall and begins with a short devotion and discussion. There is coffee and plenty of fellowship. It's a great place to share how your week was with Christian friends.

Bible Study
Our Wednesday morning (10:00) Bible study starts back up in the fall and provides an opportunity to dig a little deeper into the Scriptures.  This session we'll be enjoying one of John Ortberg's studies entitled "When the Game is Over It All Goes Back In The Box".  - Salem  Room, next to the Parlor.

Children's and family ministries

Home school
Salem Christian School has been established to allow parents the freedom to educate their children in the way God has appointed, while also fulfilling the Maryland State legal requirements for home schoolers under its supervision.

Each family chooses, purchases, and implements the materials to be used in the education of their children. The school does not require any particular curriculum or plan of study. Additionally, the school does not require the families to cover every subject every day throughout the year. The family decides how and when materials are covered. Each family is required to keep a portfolio of samples of each student's work to show "regular, thorough instruction" in the required courses of english, mathematics, science, social studies, art, health, physical education and religion.

Noah's Ark Children's Center is accepting registration for both the three- and four-year old classes. Please call the church office or our director Mary Ellen Wehr, 410-529-6777. "Noah's Ark is the best pre-school in the area. My children both have loved it." -- A Happy Mom

Sunday School Teachers
What a wonderful way to serve the Lord an our church! Substitute teachers and nursery workers are always needed.

Worship Hour Child Care Staff
We are very fortunate here at Salem to have a fully staffed, paid worship-time program provided for children from birth through 2nd grade. A schedule of worship hour children's programs has been placed in the pew racks to provide information to families who have children within these ages.

Prayer ministries

Prayer Circles
If you would like to be a part of our prayer circles just contact the church office. When there is a prayer need, the circles go to work, praying and calling the next person on the list.

Prayer Group
Care through Prayer-Join a prayer team which meets Thursday mornings at 7:30 and Thursday evenings at 6:30 to pray for the needs of our congregation, the whole church, and the world.

Service opportunities

Helping Hands Food pantry
Work a day giving out food. Monday through Friday 9-12. Pick a day a month or a day or 2, whenever you can make it.

Thrift Shop
Fridays 9-12. Drop off good used clothing at the church. We are always looking for volunteers who can man the shop.

Community Assistance Network--Come, join us on the first Wednesday and second Tuesday of every month as we serve food to those in need. We meet at 6:30 PM. at the Eastern Regional Health Bldg. on Franklin Square Drive.

Adopt a family at Thanksgiving and Christmas
We support the Wesley Home. Wesley is a retirement community with strong ties to the United Methodist Church.

T.L.C. & Stephen Ministry--Caregiving and Training opportunities. Stephen Ministers provide support for people going through difficult times.  To learn how you can help a friend, contact the Church Office for more information.

Technology Team -- Join with us to implement technology in the church, and the church's ministries.  If you have a talent for technology, website development, graphic arts or if you'd like to learn more about how technology is being used to spread the gospel, contact the Church Office more more information.

Salem Caring Canines
Formed in March 2009, Jackson with his owner Jessica (a registered Therapy Dog Team) make visits to shut-ins, shelters, nursing facilities, retirement homes and to anyone who would benefit from such a visit.  Please contact the Church office for more information.

Other Small Groups

Salem Brothers - Salem Brothers, an a cappella gospel quartet, was formed in 2005 by providence, "the care exercised by God over the universe."  With no instrumentation to distract from the message of His Word, “HisSpace” features a broad range of reflective, emotional songs with tight harmonies and get-up-and-praise-God songs with crisp rhythms and powerful modulations.  Click on the album cover for links to their site and music!

Salem Spotlighters----Come out and enjoy a great show with great food! Call the church office for more information.

Book Club-If you enjoy reading, team up with this like-minded group. We read a number of different books throughout the year. There's always good discussion, fellowship and fun.

United Methodist Women--This is a group of women who serve the church, community, and world in mission and ministry.
