Reception

A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at Salem.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Marian was the cherished daughter of the late William and Margaret Bernadine (Slatzer) Obitz and the beloved wife of the late Stewart Charles O’Neil.

Marian’s zest for life knew no bounds. She found immense joy in the simplest of pleasures, from the camaraderie of a bowling alley to the tranquil depths of the Baltimore Aquarium, where her volunteer spirit shone brightly. Her dedication to her community knew no bounds as she tirelessly lent her time to both her church and local elementary schools, leaving an indelible mark on all she encountered.

A master of needlepoint, Marian’s nimble fingers wove tales of love and warmth into every stitch, knitting stockings that became treasured heirlooms for her loved ones. Yet, amidst her busy schedule, Marian always found time for what truly mattered—her family. Whether gathered around the dinner table or in the pews of her beloved church, her presence radiated comfort and love, binding her family and church community together in a tapestry of cherished memories.

Marian leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be etched in the hearts of those she held dear. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Dawn and Husband Louis Nearhood; sons, Stewart O’Neil, and David O’Neil and his wife Judy; 16 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the depth of her love and the richness of her legacy.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marian was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Janice Cogburn; son, Scott O'Neil Sr; a grandchild Scott O’Neil Jr, and her dear brother, William Obitz.
